The Hobby of Collecting Coins

“The Hobby of Collecting Coins” infographic explores the world of coin collecting by focusing on the individuals that keep the hobby going and growing. It tries to answer questions such as “Who are the coin collectors in the US?”, “How many coin collectors are out there” and many more. Read on – we hope that you learn something new!

Whether you have a coin collection of 2 coins or 2000 coins - you officially became a coin collector when you first expressed some interest in learning about that round “thing” that our government issues. Interestingly enough, like minded collectors of the United States probably went through the same experience in as early as 1792. It was in that year when the United States Mint was first established and the first set of coins were produced.

Did you know though that by year 2013 (over 200 years later!) it estimated that there are over 10 million Americans that happen to be involved in the coin collecting hobby in some shape or form? That’s 10 million like-minded individuals that attend coin shows, transact with other collectors and spend a lot of time researching the historical significance of various coins.

By the way, it is estimated that there are approximately 413 coin shows that will take place in 2013 across the country. Coins shows are generally are great venues for meeting fellow collectors. And if you happen to attend one, you’ll probably notice that an average age of a coin collector is estimated at around 59 years with a male to female ratio of 10 to 1.

Our infographic, “The Hobby of Collecting Coins”, portrays an informative picture about coin collectors in the United States. We hope that you take a moment to review the infographic and learn something new about the hobby you like so much already!

WordPress: The Anatomy of a theme

The choice of theme is certainly the most important and delicate moment when you must create a site
the web. Many times we rely on a Template (template), but not always able to satisfy completely
our needs. It is not unusual to modify some parts of the theme to customize the appearance
chart or add additional functionality.

If you install an advanced theme can be done from the Admin Panel, otherwise you need to put
the code and modify it. For this it is essential to know the basic elements of a WordPress theme.
A WordPress theme consists of a folder that contains the template file. The two files absolutely
needed are index.php and style.css.

The first contains the basic style and theme information while index.php is the basic layout, and
represents the fallback file when there is no other template files. We find header.php that
show the header of the site and the navigation menu, and footer.php contains footer instructions
and closes the HTML tags.

Among others there are file sidebar.php template, which controls the display of the sidebar,
comments.php, and comments. It is possible to have a single.php file to view a single post
and a page.php file for the static page. The functions.php file handles the functionality of the theme.

The loop is the core of WordPress, PHP query that communicates with WordPress and it returns
the requested content, and is located in the theme’s template file or in loop.php. The following infographics
below will help you to better understand the relationship between files and layout. As you can see, the theme
has been divided into four main sections. Each of them has a corresponding template theme files

Which Jobs Lead to Substance Abuse?

Substance abuse is attributed to a number of causes, some genetic and others due to societal aspects. High stress, long hours, and fatigue are commonly cited causes of substance abuse, in addition to remote supervision and easy access to substances. Sometimes, even boredom can cause one to abuse drugs, the use of which has attributed to about four billion lost work hours in the United States alone.

Americans consume 60% of the world’s illegal drugs, so it’s a domestic issue that many should be aware of. Whatever the trigger, substance abuse can lead to decreased motivation at work. Studies show that workers reporting illicit drug or alcohol use are more likely to skip work over two days in a month, while also using sick time leave three times more frequently than the average worker. They were also more likely to miss more than two days of work because of injury, the chance of which increases when under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The impact of substance abuse on an employee also affects their company loyalty. Employees who abuse substances are five times more likely to file worker’s compensation claims, and are almost 4 times more likely to get injured in the workplace. Substance abusers are a greater liability to a company and all of its workers. 10 to 20% of American workers who died at work tested positive for drugs and alcohol, one of many statistics that show their increased liability to the company and all co-workers surrounding them, especially in industries where machinery is used, like mining and construction – which has the highest rates of drug use among employees.

Understanding The State Of The Internship

With 24.9 percent of college students now completing their first internship during their sophomore year, the landscape of internships is changing. This means an employer's intern recruiting and hiring methods need to be continually, too–or they risk losing out on the best talent available.

These internship trends aren’t only relevant to larger corporations boasting big internship programs. Even companies that only take on one intern a year need to know when students start looking, what channels they’re frequenting the most, and what kind of perks they find most enticing.

Take a look at the current state of the internship in this infographic compiled by InternMatch, an online platform connecting the best intern candidates and employers.

Asthma Statistics of Children

Created by Just Nebulizers, a company which provides nebulizers, humidifiers, and other respiratory care products to those with respiratory problems, this infographic shows the prevalence of childhood asthma, the cost of treating it, and how the condition can affect a child’s education.

One in 10 children are affected by childhood asthma. The condition is the second most prevalent childhood condition, the first being obesity. African Americans are twice as likely to have asthma than Caucasian or Hispanic children. The infographic also explains that the use of a spacer increases drug delivery from an inhaler by 4-6 fold. This is important to address as 85% of patients can bring their asthma under control with education and supervision.

Asthma statistics were pulled from various sources, including Centers for Disease Control (CDC), American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI), and World Health Organization (WHO). For more information on asthma and asthma treatments, please visit justNebulizers.com.

The ultimate keylogger: FBI’s Magic Lantern

Magic Lantern: Classic Keylogger Software
If you are one of those who think keylogger software is not powerful enough to monitor an entire workstation, you certainly have not heard of FBI’s Magic Lantern. Developed by the Bureau in 2002, the Magic Lantern was designed to penetrate a system from a remote location, without the user’s knowledge. Once operational, the tool logged several operating system activities like Web browsing history, usernames, passwords, IP addresses and TCP UDP ports. And that’s not it! This notorious surveillance tool got full support from renowned security software makers like Norton and McAfee which allowed it to infiltrate through the walls of the systems, protected by them. Our infographic has a lot more details.

The Move Towards Green Living Has Created A Gap in the Welding Industry

It has been reported by the Office of National Statistics that over the last five years almost a quarter of registered welders who are certified have left the industry. The actual number is believed to be around 18000 which only leaves 58000 registered and certified welders in the UK.

The demand for welders is rising and due to the decreasing numbers of the welders in the UK there is now a 25 per cent gap. The changes in our lifestyles and the requirement for a greener, more sustainable living along with the plans to make the UK self-sufficient for energy from 2020 adds to the requirement for welders. For that project alone 20,000 welders trained welders will be required which creates a big shortfall in the number of available welders.

The shortfall will only be eliminated if 50,000 people start welder training at level 1 and 2 within the next 3-5 years. The shortfall in the numbers has been addressed by the UK’s Weldability-Sif Foundation. The foundation has entered into a partnership with EAL and the Welding Institute to increase the welder training courses around the country.

The Science of Habit: Popular Habits vs. Popular Addictions

Did you know that we spend half our lives in zombie-like automation, carrying out routines we created days, months, or even years ago? It’s a necessity – without some routine in our life, we would take far longer to do everything we need to do and we would grow tired far more quickly from the mental exertion. In many ways habits are actually necessary in our lives and provide our days with a fluid rhythm.

Unfortunately, we can also develop habits that are detrimental to our health. Over time these negative habits turn into full-force addictions, sustained by the satisfaction or feeling of being rewarded for completing these negative behaviors. The infographic below, created by 12 Palms Rehab, explains the differences.

Kicking these negative habits or addictions and replacing them with positive habits is not easy – in fact, it’s downright exhausting. Quick and dirty negative habits are far easier to form than those that require more time, energy, and consistency. Try to start with small changes such as drinking water instead of having a snack between meals or chewing gum instead of smoking that cigarette. Whenever you feel your “trigger” – stomach is rumbling, time for food – try to replace your response to it with a healthier action – eat a salad, not a cookie. Understanding why you indulge in negative habits or addictions will help you to break away from these actions and become a better you.

Although they may not realize it, employees are meant to assist companies in the recruitment process. It only makes sense if they are in the recruitment trenches with hiring managers and recruiters since they’ll be working with these new team members. But most employees are on-the-go or don’t work in-house–meaning the best way to streamline the referral process may be using mobile.

This infographic, compiled by social employee referral management platform Zao, illustrates the benefits of mobile in employee referral programs, as well as some best practices for companies to get started. Some takeaways to note include:

  • 1 in 4 people who come to a career site are coming from a mobile device
  • Only 1 in 5 Fortune 500 Companies are mobile-optimized for recruiting
  • 66% of employees use two or more mobile devices at work
