How Automation Improves Business Performance and Overall Society

Automation continues to play an increasingly large role in our lives as humans leverage technology to improve quality of life. At Dolphin, automation is a huge part of what we do, and the services that we provide. Through Accounts Payable automation in SAP, customers see increases in productivity by as much as 30 percent or more and reductions in cost per invoice by up to 60 percent.

Looking at the concept of automation at an even larger level, we thought it would be a fun and interesting exercise to create an infographic highlighting the impact that automation has had on our ability to improve business performance in addition to its impact of society-at-large.  From agriculture to accounting, and from travel agents to toll takers to telephone operators, automation has reduced business costs and improved efficiency over the last several decades.

In 2010, 340 of every 100,000 adults launched a business each month. If you’re a new small business owner and you want to eliminate the chance of having to deal with any future costly trademark disputes, it’s highly recommended that you take the time to file an application and register your trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Trademark law in general protects a trademark owner’s commercial identity (goodwill, reputation, and investment in advertising) by giving the trademark owner the exclusive right to use the trademark on the type of goods or services associated with the mark. In the following infographic, we’ll outline a number of reasons why registering for a trademark can be beneficial for your startup, provide tips on how to get stared and what to expect, and shed light on a few recent startup trademark dispute cases that will help you understand why registering a trademark is so important.

High Life: Illegal Drugs and Conformity

External image

Recently, you may have heard a lot about so-called designer drugs, and how they’re commonly available to teenagers. Although those certainly pose dangers, young people are often able to find drugs in a location that’s much more accessible: The home medicine cabinet.

Studies, like this one from 12 Keys Rehab, have found how as many as 27 percent of teenagers think using prescription drugs is safer than trying street drugs. Also, 30 percent held the belief that it’s okay to take drugs prescribed by a doctor for a reason other than to treat a genuine illness or injury.

Think about those statistics, and consider that the prescription drugs in your home are probably freely accessible to any curious teens that may come across them. That’s not a reason to be paranoid and avoid keeping prescription drugs on hand when they’re needed, but it’s a good idea to at least store them securely to prevent misuse by teens who feel compelled to conform to behaviors encouraged by peers.

The Secret World of Background Checks

Contrary to popular belief, 73% of all U.S. companies perform background checks on all candidates, not just those applying for upper management positions. There are numerous reasons why a person may run a background check on another individual. Employers perform background checks on potential employees, property managers run background checks on incoming tenants, parents run background checks on nannies, and some people even run background checks on the people they date! There are a number of benefits associated with performing background checks. Background checks can help confirm a person’s qualifications, solidify their character, verify their educational background, alert an employer about potential issues relating to criminal history, credit history, and legal working status. In the following infographic, we’ll outline the typical process of a background check. In addition, we’ll illustrate how to find the right provider once you’ve decided you want to run a background check, go through a list of the most common infractions found when running a background check, and shed light on the “the dark side” of background checks.

The True Cost of an Attorney

There are a number of factors that can influence how much money you or your company might have to spend the next time you need an attorney. According to one study, company legal departments can spend anywhere from $245,000 to $320 million in legal fees annually. So why are attorney fees so high? There are a number of reasons. One reason relates to the amount of money attorneys spend while earning their law degrees. On top of their four year college degrees, attorneys also attend three years of law school. For individuals working toward a career as an attorney, tuition can cost anywhere from $119,295 to $174,327 depending on whether they attend an in-state, out-of-state, or private school. Another reason relates to the time and energy that an attorney typically spends working on complex corporate cases (many of which take three years or more to resolve). In the following infographic, we’ll outline additional factors that influence the costs of hiring an attorney, what types of services small businesses typically hire attorneys for, and how costs vary depending on where you are in the country.

Will Drivers Licenses Be Needed In The Future

Thanks to advances in technology, everyday tasks continue to get easier and easier for society. For many, the idea of self-driving cars seems like a technology that would only be available to the general public in the far distant future. In recent years however, a handful of companies have been making investments to make this seemingly unimaginable innovation possible. Having already completed 300,000 test drive miles without incident using its driverless car, Google is one such company that has been working hard to bring the concept of self-driving vehicle technology to fruition. In addition, other companies have developed similar technology that is changing the way drivers operate their vehicles—like autonomous parking, advanced GPS systems, and integrated obstacle avoidance and detection systems. In the following infographic, we outline additional information about driverless cars, introduce other examples of other car technology currently being introduced to the public, and discuss what’s in store for the future of driving and transportation. - See more at: http://www.dmvcheatsheets.com/articles/infographic-will-drivers-licenses-be-needed-in-the-future#sthash.ZOmzPRNL.dpuf

Some Deaths Are Preventable

Life expectancy continues to increase with advancing healthcare, but there are still a prominent number of preventable deaths each year. The causes range from unhealthy eating to lack of physical activity, both of which contribute to the two main causes of preventable deaths in the United States: heart disease and diabetes.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, which is the developed country with the worst preventable death rate. It’s an alarming statistic considering the advanced nature of U.S. medical care. In the U.S., 32% of women under the age of 75 die from preventable deaths, while 23% of men under 75 suffer the same fate.

Despite advances in modern medicine, the U.S. is improving its preventable death rate at a slower rate than any other developed country. Inactivity and poor diet are the primary culprits, exacerbated by U.S. tendencies for easily accessible fast food and conveniences.
