5 REASONS WHY 2013 IS THE YEAR FOR BRANDS TO GO SOLOMO

This month, digital agency We Love celebrate the evolving digital world with an infographic-inspired site, showing brands why 2013 is the year to embrace digital and go SoLoMo.

SoLoMo, developed as a result of the growing popularity of smartphones, is short for Social-Local-Mobile. It can benefit brands by not only increasing business, but also transforming user behaviour and enhancing levels of brand engagement. The SoLoMo approach blends together real-time locations with social media to give consumers the most relevant experience for where they are and what they are trying to achieve at a specific time.

Creative Director, Blair Jarvis commented: “Consumers’ needs and demands are becoming more and more sophisticated. With mobile user needs much more immediate, they want to be able to get information on demand, wherever they are. This is where SoLoMo comes into play.”

Jarvis, continues: “It’s never been more important to be social, think local and invest in mobile, and if it isn’t already, a SoLoMo strategy should be at the heart of your digital vision for 2013 and onwards.”

The Race for the First Driverless Ca

Self-driven cars have been in development for several years now. The research was originally conducted by Universities and Technology Institutions, but now we have seen a strong interest from car manufacturers and even Google!

Some of the car brands that are looking into bringing these autonomous cars to the mainstream market include Ford, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Nissan, Toyota and many others are soon to join in.

One of the main stumbling blocks is the liability scenario in the event of an accident. Who is responsible? Who is to blame? Is the driver liable or will it be the car manufacturer? A very important question that needs to be addressed by the Governments and Car Manufactures.

On a positive note, the state of Nevada is the first state to legalize self-driven vehicles on their roads, which makes this a pioneering state in the process of bringing this technology to the public.

The following infographic produced by Car Loan 4U illustrates the key players in the commercialization of autonomous vehicles. It used a graphical speed-o-metre to compare the technology and chance of commercialization levels.

America’s Addiction to Oil

Every day on the planet Earth, we burn through over 53 million barrels of fuel. At 42 gallons per barrel, that’s a LOT of fuel - almost 2.25 billion gallons. 18 million barrels of that - a full third - are consumed by the United States.

We enjoy exceptionally low gas prices. Think your trips to the pump are expensive? Think again. Our gas average is a full $2.72 lower than the international average. Meanwhile, in some countries like Norway and Turkey, drivers need to shell out nearly $10 per gallon.

Our low cost, easy access to fuel is stalling innovation. European cars average at about 40 MPG while ours only average out at 20 MPG. Europe has been increasing efficiency, and focuses their efforts on improving public transit, while we continue to throw big money at our highway system.

As the days until the end of fuel tick by, there’s one question on everyone’s minds - how long can this really last?
