The Goooogle Graveyard

Google has had a long history of creating many innovative products. Some of them become instant blockbusters while others get the axe over a period of time. When products go, we’ve seen a lot of backlash from the fans. Just recently, Google Reader got the axe, citing the lack of adoption growth as the main reason Google chose to sunset this popular Google product.

We’re expecting iGoogle and Google’s Keyword Tool to be next on the chopping block, but do not mourn just yet! The Google Keyword Tool will live on in part as the upcoming Keyword Planner, and iGoogle will become obsolete as Google Search steps towards parameterless search - that is search without typing into a search engine - based off of your habits.

Which of these retired Google projects do you miss the most?

How the Channel Tunnel was Built

The Channel Tunnel is one of the largest engineering ventures ever in the UK. Taking over five years to complete, with roughly 13,000 workers from England and France working together to complete the vision. It was such a task to take on that the tunnel is now one of the seven wonders of the modern world. However, the grand scale of the project is largely forgotten, from the machines used, to how deep they ventured.

Today, as hundreds of passengers take the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle under the Channel, it can be easy to forget this astonishing and unique man-made structure. This Eurotunnel Le Shuttle infographic runs through how the tunnel was created with tunnel boring machines, the size of the project, how many family pets have been under the channel and the volume of traffic, which travels through on a daily basis.

For more information on the tunnel and Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, visit the website at http://www.eurotunnel.com.
